2021 FIM Motocross World Championship - RND #013, GP Of Spain, Intu – Xanadù Arroyomolinos

Not a profitable weekend at the GP of Spain for the riders of SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery. In MX2 Horgmo and Adamo struggled and gained only a few points. In MXGP Forato finished out of the points in both races.

For the 13^th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship season, the circus moved from France to Spain, near to Madrid, at the intu-Xanadù Arroyomolinos circuit, for the GP of Spain.

The EMX250 Championship did not attend the event, so SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed all of its riders to the races: Andrea Adamo #80, Kevin Horgmo #24, and Alberto Forato #303.



Morning’s Free Practice finished with the 5^th fastest lap time for Horgmo and the 10^th for Adamo. The following Timed Practice finished with Horgmo in P14 and Adamo in P17. In the Top Class, Alberto made the 27^th fastest lap time in Free Practice but he improved and he finished 16^th in Timed Practice.

MX2 Race 1 start was not the best one for the riders on their GasGas of the Team from Modena, as Adamo and Horgmo were respectively 18^th and 22^nd at the end of the first lap. Their whole race developed at the margins of the “top 20”, but while Adamo moved up two positions and finished in P16, Horgmo had a slip during lap 3 (when he was 18^th and coming back) and he could not make it any better than P21.

In Race 2 the performances of the riders were not a lot different than Race 1 at the beginning. At the start, Adamo and Horgmo were respectively in P20 and P21 but they began to work for a comeback straight away. Adamo reached 17^th place during lap 4 but then a crash forced him to retire. Horgmo moved up with a lot of struggles but he managed to finish the race, after 18 laps, in 16^th position. At the end of the day, Horgmo ranked 20^th Overall while Adamo was 21^st. Adamo kept his P16 in the General Classification while Horgmo is still 24^th.



In the Top Class, Alberto could not express his talent on the track too. In both races, the rider from Veneto started around the “top 20” but, differently than the previous races, he could not make a comeback. With an unstable pace, Alberto made some overtakes but he also suffered a few, and, at the end of both races, he always found himself out of the points, as he finished in P21 and in P23. At the end of the day, he was ranked 25^th Overall. Alberto also gave up a place in the General Classification and he is now in 18^th position.

For the last five rounds of the calendar, FIM Motocross World Championship will go back to Italy. On the weekend of the 23^rd and the 24^th of October, the GP of Trentino will take place, and that will be the first of three rounds in a row at the Pietramurata circuit. The last two rounds of the calendar will be hosted instead in the Lombardy region at the circuit of Mantua.

Kevin Horgmo #24: “Today I finished in P20 (P21 in Race 1 and P16 in Race 2) at the GP of Spain. I felt that I could be faster but it all started in the wrong way. In Race 1 I crashed during lap 3 and my handguard got loose, causing me troubles at left turns. In Race 2 I had a better place, but that was not enough to make it better than P16. It was, however, a good training before the last two rounds of the European Championship”.



Andrea Adamo #80: “It was a very hard day, I struggled throughout the whole day despite feeling fast. Unluckily in Race 2, I had a crash that pulled my breath off for 2 minutes, and I was forced to retire. We will try again next week”.
