2021 FIM Motocross World Championship - RND #015, GP Of Pietramurata, Pietramurata 2

A great character for Horgmo at the GP of Pietramurata. The Norwegian grabbed the second step of the podium after a big comeback in Race 2. Adamo was unlucky in Race 1 but he had his redemption in Race 2 as he entered in the “top 10”. Forato gained points only in Race 1.

Only two days passed from the GP of Trentino, and the FIM Motocross World Championship resumed its way with a midweek appointment. The circuit designed for the round was again the Pietramurata track, which was modified in a couple of sectors. The conditions were similar to the past weekend, the sun was shining and the surface of the circuit had perfect conditions.

Together with Andrea Adamo #80 and Alberto Forato #303, SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed Kevin Horgmo #24, who was involved in the seventh round of the EMX250 Championship.

During Tuesday morning practices, Kevin showed speed straight away as he was 4th fastest of his group in Free Practice and 2nd fastest in Timed Practice, gaining the 4th place at the starting gate. As usual, Kevin had a reactive start and he was in P4 after lap 1 of Race 1. The Norwegian then had to wait for 7 laps before gaining P2, and once he got it, it was too late to chase the leader of the race. After 17 laps, Race 1 finished with Kevin in 2nd place. In Race 2, instead, Horgmo did not have a good start as he was in P20 after lap 1. The Norwegian, though, did not lose his grit and confidence and he started making the fastest laps and overtakes until he reached the 6th position. That great comeback allowed him to conquer the fifth podium in seven races, as he jumped on the 2nd step of it. Kevin also confirmed his 2nd place in the General Classification and he reduced the gap from the leader by 3 points, keeping the battle for the 2021 title alive.

In the morning Free Practice Andrea entered in the “top 10” with the 10th fastest lap time, but in the following Timed Practice the Sicilian could not repeat his performance and he classified 18th. MX2 Race 1 for Andrea lasted only 4 laps. He had a good start but he was blocked by another rider on the main straight before turn 1, so he had to close the throttle and he lost a lot of positions. Once he was coming back, during lap 2, Andrea had another slip and his bike was hit by a few riders who crashed at the same point of the track. Once the race was restarted, the GasGas rider was forced to retire. Race 2 for Andrea had a whole different flavor. The Sicilian made a good start and he gained P6 during lap 1. He had a good pace and lap times, and he stabilized at the margin of the “top 5” for the whole race, even though he finished in 8th position. At the end of the day Andrea ranked in P15 despite the “zero” of Race 1; in the General Classification he gained one place and he is now in P15.

In Free and Timed Practice Alberto finished in P21 and in P18 respectively. In Race 1 the rider from Veneto had a discrete start and he gained 14th place. Despite a not optimal physical shape, Alberto kept a good pace and he managed to stay in the “top 20”, and after 20 laps he finished in 18th position. Race 2 was undertone instead. The rider from Veneto was not very fast at the start and after the first moments of the race he was well out of the “top 20”. During the remaining laps, Alberto also had a crash, from which he restarted well, but he could only make it to 24th place at the finish line. Alberto ranked P21 Overall and he kept 18th place in the General Classification.

The 16th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship will be hosted once again by the Pietramurata circuit, on the weekend of the 30th and the 31st of October. The GP will be named GP of Garda.

Kevin Horgmo #24: “My start in Race 2 was terrible and I had to recover and make up places, while also fighting with my direct opponent for the Championship. I gave it all and I forced my pace to the limit, but only a little mistake didn’t allow me to gain P5 during the last lap. I’m happy I gained another podium anyway, and I’d like to thank the Norwegian Federation, my trainer, the team, and all the fans that support me”.

Andrea Adamo #80: “It was only a half good weekend. In Race 1 I was involved in a crash just before a jump and the bike got damaged. In Race 2 instead, I had my redemption, as I had a good start and I stayed in the group of the top riders for the whole time. I finished in P8 and I’m very satisfied. I hope that I will do the same performance again next Sunday”.

Alberto Forato #303: “It was a hard race but it went better than last Sunday because at least I managed to finish both races. Despite the pain in my wrist, I gained 18th place in Race 1 while in Race 2 I had a very bad start and things got complicated after a crash, so I finished in P24. I’m confident I will be in better condition next Sunday so I will be able to gain a better result”.
