2022 FIM Motocross World Championship began at the Matterley Basin circuit. Encouraging start of the season for Adamo in the MX2 and for Forato in the MXGP. Both riders entered in the “top 10” Overall with 10th place for Andrea and 7th place for Alberto.
The adverse weather conditions that happened in the past weekend caused a delay of the start of the 2022 FIM Motocross World Championship season, which actually began at Matterley Basin one week later than scheduled. The circuit is based next to Winchester and it hosted the GP of Great Britain.
After two years, the organization of the Championship decided to go back to the old “format”, which included two days of racing: Free Practice, Timed Practice and Qualifying Races scheduled on Saturday, while Race 1 and Race 2 scheduled on Sunday.
In the MX2 class SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed Andrea Adamo #80, a rider from Sicily. Since the first practice Andrea showed that he really liked the British circuit, and after P7 in Timed Practice he confirmed his speed in Qualifying Race: he made an excellent start that saw him entering in the “top 10” straight away, and after a powerful race he finished in 6th place. In the MXGP Alberto Forato #303 made a strong race too: after P12 in Timed Practice, the rider from Veneto made a good start, gaining the 8th position, and he kept it with authority until the checkered flag.
The first riders that went on track on Sunday morning were the MX2 guys. In Race 1 Andrea made a discrete start which placed it in P10. Through the 14 laps-long race the Sicilian confirmed his good shape, as he gained two more positions, but during the last lap he was overtaken and he finished in 9th place. In Race 2 Adamo was 14th after lap 1, but he moved up many places with the same grit that he had in the previous race, positioning in 8th position. When there were 4 laps to go, though, Andrea made a mistake and he gave up three places. With P11 and P8 he made it to the 10th place Overall, gaining an important goal as he entered in the “top 10” and he finished as first of the Italians.
In MXGP Race 1 Alberto made an excellent start and after lap 1 he passed by the finish line in 4th place. While he was fighting to keep the position, during lap 2, Forato had a small crash that made him move back to P9, but the tough rider from Veneto did not give up, as he gained three places in the final part of the race and finished in 6th position. In Race 2 Alberto was in P14 after lap 1. He quickly gained a few places during the first phase, and then he administered the central part of the race. In the last 3 laps Alberto then moved from P11 to P8, so at the end of the day he ranked in 7th place Overall, which is more than a satisfying result.
FIM Motocross World Championship will continue its way with no pause and the next round will take place in Italy. “Città di Mantova” circuit will be the designed track to host the event, which is located in the suburbs of the historical and famous city of Mantua. The GP of Lombardia will also host the opening round of the EMX250 Championship, so Federico Tuani #3 will be there too to race for the team.
Andrea Adamo #80: “Let’s say that I’m happy for the speed that I showed but not for the result. We can stay a lot further ahead as we demonstrated in the Qualifying Race. Today I had two unlucky races, especially Race 2. While I was fighting for P6 a small mistake made me move back to P11. My starts didn’t help either, so I ranked in 10th place Overall. We didn’t collect the result that we deserved… but we will try to fight back at Mantua!”.
Alberto Forato # 303: "Today went very well, it was an excellent first race. I was already fast in qualifying on Saturday and I did two good races today. In the first heat I got a great start even if a crash penalized me slightly, making me finish 6th. In race 2 I finished 8th for a 7th day. I'm happy and I hope to continue like this. "
