Ponte a Egola hosted the second round of the MX PRO Prestige Italian Championship. Forato was the absolute showman of the MX1: Pole Position and second consecutive double win. In the MX2 Elite Tuani was penalized for a little bit of bad luck and some slips. In the Fast, Ruffini struggled and moved to Group B.
On the weekend between the 30th of April and the 1st of May, the MX PRO Prestige MX1-MX2 Italian Championship resumed its way with the second round, hosted by the “Santa Barbara” circuit at Ponte an Egola, in the county of San Miniato (Pisa, Italy).
SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery deployed Federico Tuani #3 and Luca Ruffini #699 in the MX2 class and Alberto Forato #303 in the MX1, who was also the owner of the Red Plate as he was the provisional leader of the series, after that he dominated the first round at Maggiora (Novara, Italy). Andrea Adamo #80 was not present.
On Saturday Federico, in the MX2, had the chance to qualify in Group A after that he finished 2nd in Group 3 in both Free and Timed Practice, gaining 6th place at the starting gate. Luca did not make a good lap and he moved to Group B after the 12th and the 19th position in the practices. In MX1 Alberto mastered the sessions, as he finished 1st in both of them, gaining the second consecutive Pole Position.
In both races of the MX2 Group B Ruffini made a good start, but while he rode well in Race 1, starting in P3 and gaining the victory with an overtake when there was one lap to go, in Race 2 he made some mistakes and he lost the 1st place after one lap, finishing in P20. The weekend at Ponte an Egola ended with 8th place in Group B, while he is now 12th in the General Classification of the MX2 Fast.
MX2 Race 1, on Sunday morning, did not start well for Federico. During lap 1 the GasGas rider suffered a technical issue after a few corners, and he moved back to the last place. His race lasted 4 laps only, as he then decided to go back to the pit. In Race 2 Tuani was in the middle of the group after the start, but he tried to recover straight away. Once he gained P10 he slipped and he moved back a few places. Things turned worse as he made contact with another rider during the last lap and fell off again, moving back to the 16th position. At the end of the day, Federico ranked 21st Overall in the MX2 Elite and he lost five places in the General Classification, as he is now 18th.
In the MX1 it was all another game. Forato was not perfect at the start, and after the long uphill that features the Tuscan track he was at the margins of the “top 5”. The rider from Veneto, though, took only one lap to be confident with the circuit and the riders ahead. During lap 2 already, Alberto took the lead of the race, and he easily ran away. He won the race with more than 40 seconds of the gap from the rider behind. In Race 2 the SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery rider repeated himself, and after a start that saw him in the “top 5”, he quickly took the lead and made a big gap from the others, winning the race with great advantage from the rider in P2. He confirmed himself as the best rider of the “Tricolore” season, keeping the red plate on his GasGas and gaining the full score after two rounds.
The third round of the MX PRO Prestige Italian Championship will take place on the 21st and the 22nd of May at the International “Montecoralli” circuit in Faenza, Emilia Romagna. Next weekend, instead, SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery will be committed to the seventh round of the FIM Motocross World Championship at Maggiora, Italy, where there will be the riders of the EMX250 Championship too.
Alberto Forato #303: “Today it went very well again” Every time I went onto the track I finished 1st, conquering another double win. What else to say, the track was challenging and it was good training given next weekend’s round at Maggiora for the World Championship. Top weekend!”
Federico Tuani #3: “The weekend started well, I made good lap times in both Free Practice and Qualifying, but mainly I had a good feeling with the bike and the track and I was very confident for the races. In Race 1 I started in the “top 10” but a technical issue forced me to retire. In Race 2 I started in the middle of the group and I began to move up. Unluckily, though, one slip at a half distance of the race and another contact with one of my opponents with one lap to go, made me move back to P16. It was a pity because after a good Quali on Saturday, I hoped to make a good result, but a little bit of bad luck and a few slips compromised the performance. After all, it went better than the other races. I’m thankful to the team, my family and Jacky Vimond.”
