At the prestigious appointment of the Motocross of Nations at Red Bud, Adamo showed once again that he is a “top 5” rider. In the Qualifying Race the Sicilian finished 5th in the MX2; he then made two solid performances in the races, in which he ended in the “top 20”, to help Team Italy to finish 4th Overall.
The last race of the season, the one which was the most awaited and prestigious, the Motocross of Nations, had a rider from the Italian team SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery who was one of the protagonists. Team Italy deployed, together with Antonio Cairoli (MXGP) and Mattia Guadagnini (Open), Andrea Adamo (MX2), who was chosen by the Italian Motocyclisme Federation to represent the team after his fantastic 2022 season which saw him always as a main character of the MX2 World Championship.
This year the event was hosted by the American Circuit of Red Bud, located in Michigan, a few kilometres from the border with Indiana state and more or less one hour of distance from the capital Chicago. The track, which is absorbed by the nature, is one of the most famous in America, it has a traditional style and it is remembered not only for its beauty but also for the famous “Larocco’s Leap”, a triple jump which is uphill and has a big length.
On Saturday Andrea showed some good speed since Free Practice already, as he finished in 10th position. In Qualifying Race the Sicilian made a great start and he stayed in the “top 5” until lap 5. Adamo gave up one position in the second half of the race, but he recovered it during the last lap and finished 5th Overall and 1st of the European riders that are not used to race in America.
On Sunday, the track conditions were highly complicated by the rain that dropped during the night, so the surface was very muddy and a lot insidious. In both races, where the MX2 riders raced together with the more powerful MX1, Team SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery rider Adamo had a good start and was positioned in the “top 20” straight away. In Race 1, from the initial P10, he finished in P15. In Race 2 he moved up from 18th place to the 15th once again. He made two solid performances in the “hell of mud”, in which was so hard to keep up the speed and stay away from mistakes.
At the end of the day, the placements gained by Andrea were counted for the final General Classification of the Nations, and Team Italy finished 4th Overall. In the MX2 both solid performances made by the Sicilian gave him 7th place Overall, other than the confirmation that he is, at the moment, one of the best riders of the MX2 of the World.
The Motocross of Nations officially ended the 2022 SM Action GasGas Racing Team Yuasa Battery season. After a long and well-deserved pause to recover energies, the team from Emilia Romagna will start the plan for the 2023 season, to fight with it with the same grit as the last few months.
