2020 FIM Motocross World Championship - RND #7, GP Of Città Di Faenza (RA)

The positive moment continues for Renaux and Team SM Action Yamaha: at GP of City of Faenza the French finished 2nd overall and gained the second consecutive podium. Jacobi gained points in Race 1 but he retired in Race 2.

The FIM Motocross World Championship continued its program with the second midweek round, which contributed to go towards the end of this complicated 2020 season. The circuit that hosted the GP of City of Faenza was again the “Monte Coralli”, which is absorbed in the green nature of the hills of Ravenna province in Italy.

On Wednesday, when the riders went onto the track for Free and Timed Practices, the sun was shining and the surface was in excellent conditions.

In the MX2, Maxime Renaux #959 was deployed by Team SM Action Yamaha and he showed once again determination and speed -like last Sunday when he conquered a brilliant victory- signing for the 2nd fastest lap in both Free and Timed Practices.



In the late morning the MX2 class had its Race 1. Maxime’s start was really good, and the French went straight away to the 3rd place. After a long fight with the rider in 2nd position, the French gained that place at lap 8. From that moment he managed the race in the best way he could, he gained gap from the riders that were chasing him and he finished in 2nd position. In Race 2 Maxime had again a good start, with the Yamaha #959 that passed in 3rd position after lap 1. The surface though, by then, had ruts and was slippery; Maxime struggled during the first laps, he lost a few places and he had a little slip when he was trying to recover, so he found himself in 7th position. From that moment Maxime decided to slow down his pace a little to avoid the risk of making any more mistakes. The insidious surface, though, made a lot of victims, especially a few riders that were in front of him, so after a well managed race he finished in 4th place. At the end of the day the overall result saw him in 2nd place (for the second consecutive time and for the third time in the season) and that meant podium. In the General Classification he is steadily in 3rd place and he is gaining from the rider in 2nd place.

In the MXGP class, Henry Jacobi #29 made the 5th fastest lap time in Free Practice but he could not repeat the performance in Timed Practice and he qualified in 16th position. In Race 1 the German made quite a good start and after lap 1 he was in 13th place. His race went regularly and he did not make any mistakes, so after 17 laps he finished in 14th place, which meant 7 points gained. Race 2, instead, lasted only 2 laps for Jacobi. He started in the middle of the group, around the 15th position, but during lap 2 he crashed and he was forced to retire. With the only points gained in Race 1, at the end of the day Henry finished 17th overall, and he kept the 19th place in the General Classification.

The MXGP of Emilia Romagna, the third out of three in one week in Italy, will take place on Sunday the 13th of September, and the circuit that will host the round will be once again the Faenza circuit.

Maxime Renaux #959: “The day went well since the practices with the 2nd fastest time in Timed Practice. In Race 1 I had a good start, I gained the 2nd place in the first laps and I kept it until the end. Race 2 was a bit harder, especially during the first part, and I consequently lost a few places. After a few laps I also fell off and after that I jumped back on my bike I tried to avoid making any more mistakes because the surface of the track was really insidious. After all, I’m happy for this second podium and I hope I can make a better result in the next round”.
