At the GP of Limburg Fredriksen conquered the 5th seasonal podium with two sensational and unstoppable recoveries, and he made it to the bronze medal of the EMX250 Championship. With two solid races, Renaux reinforced his current 3rd place in the MX2 Championship.
On Tuesday the 20th and Wednesday the 21st of October, Lommel circuit hosted the 14th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship, named GP of Limburg, which also decreed the end of the EMX250 Championship.
The Norwegian Hakon Fredriksen from Emanuele Giovannelli and Matteo Migliori’s Team SM Action Yamaha was one of the main characters of Tuesday, confirming his speed, determination and willfulness to obtain good results.
After the 6th place in Free Practice and the 4th place in Timed Practice, Hakon had two bad starts in both heats but he made great recoveries considering the technical, difficult and insidious track. In Race 1 the Norwegian finished 4th after that he furiously moved up from the 27th initial position. In Race 2 his progression to the top, combined with a series of fastest laps, brought him from the 11th to the 2nd place. Thanks to those excellent results, Fredriksen made it to the podium for the fifth time out of nine rounds, as he was ranked 2nd Overall. In the General Classification, he made it to the 3rd place, which allowed him to win the bronze medal of the 2020 season. It was not an expected result, and this is why it is so satisfying for him and for all people of Team SM Action Yamaha to be one of the best European motocross riders.
In the MX2 class, Maxime finished Free Practice in 11th place, but he improved a lot in Timed Practice as he finished 2nd with only one-tenth of a second of gap from the rider in Pole Position. In Race 1 though, Renaux started slowly and his whole race was imprinted with the will to recover. From the 15th place after lap 1, the French moved up to the 8th position. In Race 2 the start was definitely better and Maxime gained straight away the “top 5”, conducting a solid race and fighting to maintain the position. At the finish line, after 16 laps, Renaux ended in 4th position. Maxime’s GP of Limburg finished with the 5th place Overall, and he reinforced his 3rd place in the General Classification moving away from his direct chaser by 9 points.
The 15th and last round of the three-in-a-row that will have taken place this week will be named GP of Lommel and it is scheduled on the 24th and the 25th of October. Then, FIM Motocross World Championship will move to Italy for the last trio of races at Pietramurata in Trentino.
Maxime Renaux # 959: “Today's GP went well but it could have certainly been better. In the timed sessions I did a good lap but in the heats both starts were not perfect. In race 1, on the first lap, I hit the bike of a rider already on the ground and I crashed. In the rush to recover I fell again; as a result, I had to recover numerous positions because I found myself far behind. In race 2, on the other hand, I quickly recovered a good position but a small problem towards the end of the heat didn't make me go beyond 4th position. All in all, it went well as I gained a few points on my direct rival in the championship but I hope to do better in the next GPs."
