At the GP of Lommel, Maxime Renaux went back to the podium with a good 3rd place Overall. With this result, he reinforced his 3rd place in the General Classification too.
The third (and last) GP at Lommel Circuit has taken place in the weekend of the 24th and the 25th of October, but unlike the previous rounds, the rain and a very rutted surface have featured Sunday’s races, when the riders of the MX2 and the MXGP went on track to dispute the 15th round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.
At the GP of Lommel, Team SM Action Yamaha deployed only one rider, the French Maxime Renaux #959 in the MX2 class. Henry Jacobi #29 (MXGP) will skip the remaining part of the season because he will have to get surgery to repair his right shoulder, which he injured in the previous round.
After that he finished Free Practice with an excellent 1st place, Maxime secured a good gate at the starting grid as he ended Timed Practice with the 4th fastest lap time. In Race 1 the French made a quite perfect start and he entered the “top 5” straight away after turn 1, finishing lap 1 in 2nd position. The Team SM Action Yamaha rider held firmly his position but at lap 7 he was overtaken and he moved back to 3rd place. When there were 2 laps to go, though, Renaux caught up the gap from the rider ahead and he regained 2nd place, keeping it until the checkered flag. In Race 2 Maxime’s start was not as perfect as the previous one. With the surface of the track ruined and highly insidious, Renaux was forced to recover from 10th place and after 16 laps he was 5th at the finish line, with a suffered but rewarding result. At the end of the day, he was ranked 3rd Overall and he gained the podium, while he extended to 20 points the gap from the rider in 4th place in the General Classification.
For the last three rounds of the season, the “world motocross circus” will move to Italy, at Pietramurata (Trento) circuit, for three intense appointments (including a mid-week one) which will start from the 31st of October and the 1st of November. The FIM Motocross World Championship will then crown its world champions for the MX2 and the MXGP classes.
Maxime Renaux #959: “It was a good weekend. In Race 1 I made a good start and after that, I suffered one overtake, towards the end of the race I was able to recover and I moved up again in 2nd place. In Race 2 I had a worse start and I was in the back. I didn’t have a good feeling with the condition of the surface but despite of that, I moved up to the 5th place, which allowed me to go to the podium in 3rd position. I’m still 3rd in the General Classification and today I also gained some points from my direct chaser, so I consider myself satisfied with the result”.
